In order to understand energy balancing, aura colors, and deep meditation and Reiki techniques, having knowledge of the chakra colors and life associations of each energy center of the body is crucial. This article will explore each of the seven chakras — plus two more beyond the traditional framework.
As background, my name is Lillie, and I’ve been a Boston Reiki practitioner since 2018, working in person with hundreds of clients over the years. All of the information in this article comes from hands-on experience, as well as extensive training and research.
Chakra Colors, Explained
In the traditional seven chakra system, the First Chakra in the body begins with the color red at the base of the spine, then moves up in rainbow order: orange aura for the Second Chakra, yellow for the Third, green for Fourth, blue for Fifth, and so on. Things get a little more complicated as we get to the head, and even more so when we add in lesser-known energy centers — as we’ll soon see in the chart, below.
How to See These Hues
First, however, let’s define what we even mean by energy centers of the body “having colors.” Essentially, during meditation, Reiki, acupuncture, or other bodywork, you or the person working with you may be able to see certain colors behind closed eyes that correlate with certain chakras. (See “Chakra Pronunciation” to avoid a common mistake in saying the word.)
Seeing these colors can become a crucial aspect of chakra balancing, as it helps indicate which areas of the body — and by extension, of interactions with life — are the “powerhouse” of an individual’s system, and which could use more nourishment. Now, let’s dive into a thorough analysis of each. Click through to any of the colors below for an even more in-depth article.
Chakra Colors
Each chakra is an energy center in the body that is associated with a different chakra color and aspect of life. Here we explore beyond the traditional seven.
White Chakra
The 7th or Crown Chakra (also called the Sahasrara) is located at the top of the head, and often depicted as the white chakra. It is connected with universal energy and expansive spirituality.
Purple Chakra
The 6th or Third Eye Chakra (called the Ajna in Sanskrit) is located in the lower forehead and is associated with intuition or being able to "read between the lines" in life to see what is just being hinted at under the surface of any situation. This is usually seen as the purple chakra, but in some depictions, this one is indigo colored (more of a blue-purple), while the 7th is shown as a classic purple.
Blue Chakra
The blue chakra is the 5th or Throat Chakra, Vishuddha, between the chin and collarbone. It is connected with powerfully speaking one's truth.
Silver Chakra
Diverging briefly from the classic seven chakra system, let's say a word about the silver chakra, which is associated with the Soul Star Chakra or Vyapini. This 8th chakra is actually located ABOVE the body! It has characteristics like the 7th Crown Chakra, except even more so; it's about having an extremely vibrant connection to universal energy and spiritual power.
Green Chakra
Moving down the body now, we come to the 4th or Heart Chakra, the Anahata, which lies in the chest. This green chakra is all about compassionate love and care for others -- as with maternal love.
Yellow Chakra
The 3rd or Solar Plexus Chakra, or Manipura, is located between the lower chest and navel, and is connected with the color yellow. It is the realm of self-confidence and self-love.
Orange Chakra
The orange chakra is the 2nd or Sacral Chakra, called the Svadhisthana in Sanskrit, and is found between the navel and hips. It is the energy center connected with creativity and sensuality.
Red Chakra
The chakra associated with red is the First or Root Chakra, found at the base of the spine: Muladhara in Sanskrit. This is the region linked to a firm foundation of safety and grounding energy.
Black Chakra
Though many people tend to associate black with negativity, that is not the case in energy work. The black chakra is the "Chakra Zero" Earth Star Chakra or Vasundhara which is located below the feet. It has amplified characteristics of the First Chakra in that it is about the fertile, grounding, and womb-like powers of generation that the Earth holds. Think of the rich soil helping to nourish seeds into trees to visualize its force!
Chakra Colors, in Sum
I hope this exploration of the beautiful world of chakra colors has been illuminating and useful. Which most stands out to you? The purple aura and energy center? Green or Yellow?
